As usual I have become an overachiever and sign us up for tons of food. We are making sausage puffs, Shrimp Dip and Rum Cake. Normally when I say we, I mean Craig. Most of my fiends know that I burn Spaghetios.
Craig is at work. I am at home (with the kids which makes everything better on getting ready) and I decided to try my hand at The Pioneer Woman's Rum cake recipe. I love her blog, and her pictures just make me want to cook.
So far I have hit a few snags. I mixed the batter with no problems. I greazed and floured the pan, good. I kept Patrick and Alison from sticking their fingers in it to taste the batter. Then I carefully pour it all evenly into the bundt pan. OK now the nuts, CRAP. The nuts were supposed to go first.
I poured the batter back into the bowl, washed the pan, re-greased and added the nuts.
I preheated the oven too hot, 375 degrees is not 325. I did not realize this until the cake had been in the oven 20 minutes.
Now for the glaze, easy right? Water, Butter, Sugar and Rum. I guess I did not read it all of the way through I thought it said combine all, boil for 5 minutes. I did not malt the butter and suager first, and I was supposed to boil for 5 minutes then add the rum.
The cake looks nice, not like PW's but I hope it tastes ok. It is killing me, I really want to check it out first so that Shawn and Colette do not have a field day teasing me if it is a flop.
Out of the Oven.
